My Little Miss Curious

Whilst grocery shopping yesterday, Tee and I heard a baby crying. Not just any crying but a loud “do not kill me” kind of screaming cry. The entire supermarket could hear it and it lasted for an eternity. All heads turned as shoppers wondered where the cries came from. I wondered if a baby had lost it’s Mom or if it was tremendously hungry but went about my shopping as time was limited.

“Mom, let’s follow the cry and see who is crying!!” Tee urged.

*Mommy continues searching for groceries totally ignoring anything below 4 feet but after more than five times of Mom!!!….blablabla…..!!!!,*

“MOM!!! C’mon!!! Let’s go see who is crying and find out why!!!”

By this time, Tee’s voice was so loud that shoppers nearby smiled at her (probably feeling pity for her that her Mom was deaf), so I asked why she wanted to know who was crying. Why, why, why…….it is none of our business. And all this time, I was thinking to myself, what a little kepohchi (busybody) my little girl is.

“Tee, it has nothing to do with us. We have things to do. Why do you want to see who is crying?”

“BECAUSE!!! I AM PRETENDING TO BE LITTLE MISS CURIOUS, THAT’S WHY!!!” came her frustrated quip.

I immediately felt the shoppers eyes within our vicinity telling me, ‘Go on!! Just take her to the cries and satisfy her cute little curiosity pang.’

Since I’d almost finished with the groceries by then, I agreed for Tee to lead me to the cries. But as Murphy’s Law would have it, the cries stopped as soon as we started approaching it. My little girl was frantic. Looking left, right, running up the aisles and back, she finally spotted what she thought was the subject. The blooming answer to life’s mysteries….

“There, Mom! That’s the one. That black stroller!” she pointed.

As subtly as I could pretending to be a supermarket trolley, I pushed my trolley slowly down said aisle so Tee could finally get her wish of seeing who was crying. *roll eyeballs*

“There!!! Did you see the baby??? His eyes were all swollen!!! He’s the one who’s been crying!!!” she was pointing the whole time whilst we quickly whizzed by. And I was pretending to be engrossed in mashed tinned peas. I had a glimpse of the baby but all I saw was a contented little baby with a pacifier in his trap so I had no clue what Tee was going on about.

Then, just as we reached the end of the aisle, that wailing banshee scream started again!!!

We both turned back to catch the baby wailing only to be surprised that it was actually the little baby’s older sister (who was about 2 and a half) throwing a fit against her Mom. I couldn’t believe that such a big toddler could project such wails!

“Hey, look Mom! She’s crying but she has no tears!!” Tee observed as we whizzed past them again towards the cashier.

“Yeah……sure looks familiar, doesn’t it? Huh? Huh?” I teased.

“Ok, let’s go Mom. I’m Little Miss Happy now.” Tee was now suddenly in a hurry to leave and quickly changed the subject to lollipops.
