For the last 10 years, one of my favourite radio stations in Malaysia have been Hitz because they are just so stupid and funny. Stupid in a good way. Don’t get me wrong, I have liked other stations too for other reasons but if I were to choose one out of the lot, it’d have to be Hitz. It plays the latest hits (I’m a Mama who has to keep with the times, yo! and not allow myself to get lost in Lite FM like SOME people – hey, you know who you are eh?). I do love Lite FM for it’s 80s music…..but not the 60s.
I must be Hitz FM’s oldest aged fan. Really. But I don’t care. Despite the body fighting hard to defy gravity, the mind is YOUNG!!!
I only get to listen to the radio every morning after I send T1 to school for about half an hour and it ties in with the morning GOTCHA call. A GOTCHA call is where a close friend or family member sets you up with the radio station so the entire nation can have a good laugh. At your expense. Now that I’m aware of such calls, I am very careful if I were to get such a call.
Having said that, I’ve received some hoax calls before and I never believed them for a second. One was from a China slang police man from Bukit Aman saying that my husband was being charged in court for being a loan shark and I had to give them my husband’s bank account details so they could help him out. WTF! I just told them that I’d been recording our conversation and that our call was being traced right this second by Bukit Aman. The real one. They couldn’t put the phone down faster and that was the end of that.
Another that happened to a friend was a stranger had called him up with a crying kids voice in the background saying their kid had been kidnapped and to allow him his life, my friend had to bank in some funds into a given account immediately. Or say goodbye to his kid. It turns out his kid was still at preschool.

Gosh..i dont want to receive such calls..one call i remember receiving was from a mandarin speaking lady, guess must be China made.. and i being a “banana”, i answered in English..”what are u talking about?”.. and the next thing I heard was the hangup call.. hahahaha…
i experienced few times sales calls or asking for wrong person by a different race, would answer in a different dialect which i know they wont understand.. 🙂
I never had one but my mom did! Someone called the house claiming I was involved in an accident and that I was at the hospital (can’t remember which). So my mom panic la and my dad was outstation at the time. We had my grandmother over some more cos she fell down and couldn’t move much, so she stayed with us for a couple of weeks. My mom had her hands full (both my sisters were very young then) and then this??? I was in college at the time the call came. No h/p then, so my mom called my uncle and they both were about to leave to get to the hospital when i came home. releieved. I tell you, the time in between was really scary for my mom.
Yo, I listen to Mix FM a lot and also Lite FM 😉 Love the music they play but not the yakking 🙂
