Our co-sleeping journey……

Why is it that children like sleeping with their parents? I don’t remember ever sleeping with a parent (but hey, that could be due to severe failed memory loss). I certainly don’t wish to sleep with my parents now. *cringe*

It really is a dependency, isn’t it? I suppose it is much nicer sleeping with someone than alone. I don’t know. Maybe. Maybe not.

Actually, you know what? I secretly wish that I don’t sleep with anyone. Ssshhhh…….that’s how much I miss my bed space.

At three years old, Tee was sleeping on our bed since birth. This was the situation when she was two years old. Now at four, she is STILL on our bed. Wow! I’ve journalled her sleep habits all these years! *pat my own back*

The bed situation has somewhat changed since the past. If you’re interested in our bed demographics, we now have 2 toddler pillows, 2 toddler bolsters, 2 orthopaedic pillows, 4 normal pillows, THREE large bolsters, 2 adult duvets, 1 toddler duvet, 2 toddler blankets (and I’ll tell you why we need so many) and a mat on the floor; where Daddy sleeps. Oh, I’d almost forgotten that I’d even thought of having my own sleeping mat! Unfortunately, our bedroom floor space does not allow this or I’d have been rolling in delirious comfort long ago.

Tee doesn’t wear pyjamas to sleep. She wears a sexy negligee. She complaints that it is too hot. So once she is asleep every night, we put a blanket over her. Some time in the middle of the night, that blanket invariably gets kicked off and tangled somewhere between her legs, like a braid. Thus comes blanket number 2.

Just before dawn, that too gets kicked off but slept on or wrapped around with like a burrito, of course at all the wrong places, because she has by now turned her body to each side about 200 times. Thus comes blanket number 3.

Trust me, we’ve got it down to Rocket Science. THREE blankets work for us.

So, let me advise you, you new pregnant ladies. This…….

……is bad news if you ever want to get ANY sleep before your child finds a boyfriend or girlfriend to sleep with. This is how I slept with Tee as a baby.

And this is how we STILL sleep.

This is how close Tee has to be with me before she can sleep. I am her sleeping drug.

Great! Tee already has an addiction at 4.

My only saving grace is that Dr Sears says it’s OKAY!

  1. I’m in the same boat. To be honest, I am NOT happy with the arrangements. He has a perfectly comfortable room with a bed and all the materials he needs. Yet and still he finds that he must sleep in our bed.

He even has a pallet (makeshift bed on the foor) He wants nothing to do with any of it.

I’m worn out. You and Tee look very peaceful. You’re giving me hope. I’m worn out.

  2. I have 3 sharing my bed now. Some nights I sneak out to the mattress on the floor to have a better sleep but will be woken up by my 6 years old requesting me to go up to the bed to sleep with her. She inched to me so near and requested to hold my hands to sleep. I wonder when this will end.

  3. I’ve got 2 on my bed with me. The second one is turning 1 end of this month and thinks she’s big enough to get out of her cot and sleep with me.

So now I’m trying to get my son to move out to the cot which can be converted to a toddler bed. Don’t know what he thinks about that, though. I hope getting him a Transformers bedding will do the trick. 🙂

  4. both of u sleep face to face. looks like she needs to hear your breathing to fall asleep eh.

i’m currently being squeezed by a 2yo n 4yo and sometimes the 5yo will squeeze it if she sees a space between me n the 4yo. i wonder how will i sleep when no.4 comes!
