I am extremely rich because I am superbly blessed with amazingly good fortune in this lifetime but if you were to ask me if I were rich wealthy rich? I’d say no. I am not wealthy. But if you compared me to the road sweeper or most middle income families then yes, of course I am much more wealthy but being wealthy is really all relative.
I used to be an average income earner being able to travel far perhaps once in every 2 years if we were to spend a hundred thousand Ringgit. But when I got more wealthy, we could afford to spend much more. However nothing else in our lives have changed at all. We are still living in the same old home and do not own any new properties nor do we have any new cars or assets to our name. All the money we have made has gone to our holidays and charity and to the tax man.
We don’t even get a single cent rebate from our money to charity because we don’t give it to registered NGOs. But yet, we still keep getting so much back. It is the cycle of life.
I was trying to teach my just turned 9 year old daughter today that the more you give, the more you receive, which is certainly what I have experienced but she wasn’t having any of it. She’d just earned herself a tidy sum of money and did not want to share!
What I really don’t like is people assuming I am so wealthy that they come to me to brazenly ask for money. More often than not, I succumb but not without a certain feeling of dissatisfaction. I am just too weak to say no and often get bullied into submission. But with that, I cut them out of my life.
Life is too short to keep so many people in it anyway. I am incredibly blessed already.
