For my wedding, my mother had hand sewn over two hundred miniature teddy bears with guests names on them and the only costs we had to bear was the cost of fabric, teddy bear filling, cross-stitch thread and sequins (for the eyes). It was an arduous task of over ninety days of daily sewing and had we known what percentage of our guests would value their favour, we would have gone to Truly Wedding Favors instead.
It would have saved us buckets of sweat. They have such beautifully unique gifts that are not expensive either, so we could have gotten something special AND useful, engraved with our names or a quote of some sort for an additional fee.
I think being useful was the key thing. And then looking beautiful. After all, how many forty year old men really give a shit about a teddy bear?! Probably and possibly, they didn’t even want to look like a sissy walking out holding a little teddy bear or risk being found out that they had a teddy bear hidden in their pockets!
Now if I had offered them a gorgeous wine bottle stopper instead, I could almost be certain that it’d be more valued than a teddy bear. What was I thinking?!
So for you lot out there who have not been through this process, keep this in mind when choosing your wedding favours. *smile*
