If you are a blogger who wants to make an income for a living, then what you need to be interested in is your Unique Visitor Count or what the professionals call the Blog UV.
A unique visitor is exactly what it is. It is every unique individual that has arrived at your blog to view your web site.
Hits, which are often confused as being individual visitors, have nothing to do with individual visitors and are irrelevant from a business point of view.
A hit is calculated by the number of items that load on a page. Take images for example; if you have 10 images on a page (logo, navigation buttons, photos), that page will register 10 hits every time it is loaded. If one individual visits your web site and views 10 pages, and each of those pages has 10 images, that one individual will account for 100 hits.
A good example of hits versus unique visitors is my own stats. On any given day, let’s take today. Mamapumpkin has 716 unique visitors so far but 16,502 hits. The day isn’t over yet but you can already see how misleading information could be if you asked “How many hits do you get?” and the reply is 16,502 versus 716. Only about a thousand people visit Mamapumpkin daily but the hits is much, much more because Mamapumpkin’s pages are so loaded with stuff!

If you want to do better business, what you have to do is to increase your Unique Visitor Count. How would you do that? For starters, get all your friends to visit your blog!
