Today, at Tee’s school, I was feeling overjoyed when I heard another Mother ask her 2.5 year old daughter,

“Hannah, would you like to go to the book room?”

Toddler walks in a circle.

“Hannah? Do you want to go to the book room today?”

Toddler continues walking in a circle.

Pause.

“Hannah…….do you want to go to the book room or not?”

Toddler walks forward 3 steps whilst twitching her fingers.

Mother sighs. “Do you want to get a book today?”

Toddler runs to reception desk and places fingers on desk.

“Hannah, Mummy asked if you want to go to the book room?”

Toddler runs to Mother and clings on to her leg.

“OK, come let’s go to the book room?”

Toddler doesn’t budge and continues clinging onto Mother’s leg.

“Come on, let’s go to the book room.”

They finally trotter off to the Book Room.

I laughed hard that we parents have to deal with such absurdities.

I’ve noticed that with Tee, I can ask her a question 2-3 times and be totally ignored. Yet when I keep my exact same tone of voice, but tell her that if I don’t get an answer within the count of 3, she will be sent to the Thinking Corner to think about how she feels about being ignored by people.

It works like a charm. Every single time………
