To market, to market, to sell my Daddy…..

The Hubs teases poor Tee every now and then, especially when she drives him bonkers, and tricks her into thinking that he will sell her at the market. Just today in the car, he told her we were on the way to the market when she asked where we were going. And little Tee will always nosily ask, “For what? For what, Daddy?”

“To sell you!”

“No! I don’t want you to sell me.”

“Then why haven’t you been a good girl? You are always unhappy so we will sell you at the market to better parents.”

“NO! I don’t want!”

“What if your new parents give you candy everyday?”

“Okay, and Mummy comes too?”

This evening, I noticed the Hubs struggling to force dinner down her throat whilst I hid in my bedroom. She finally came in to say that I was supposed to brush her teeth and get her tucked into bed. She didn’t look very happy so my guess was that her father had scolded her again for not finishing her food.

Then she spotted my eaten bowl of cake and her eyes lit up. She asked what it was that I’d eaten and I said cake. She asked if she could have some and I told her to ask her Daddy. So she ran out to ask and as soon as she’d gone out, she was running back in in tears, and shut the door lock. Then she slumped herself next to me and said,

“Mummy? Let’s take Daddy to the market to sell him.”

“Oh, what happened sweetie?”

“Daddy said I cannot eat cake because I didn’t finish my dinner.”

“Oh……well, you should have finished your dinner then.”

“Let’s sell Daddy at the market, okay?”

“But who’s going to make you milk in the mornings then?”

“Nevermind, I will not drink milk anymore. You just take care of me, okay?”

“I will ALWAYS take care of you, sweetie…..”

Later, the Hubs cracked up hysterically when I told him his daughter wanted to sell him. Then even later, he came to me to grumble forlornly that his precious daughter wanted to sell him. After all that he’s done for her.

“And how exactly do you think she feels when you tell her you are selling her?” was my come back.
