How about those who started from scratch and made it just as big or bigger than those funded businesses? Are we even comparing apples to apples?

I was listening to Russel Brunson the other day and he was talking about how so many businesses succeed in a ‘fake’ kind of way because they are backed by venture capitalists or money from Mom and Pop so it doesn’t really count when they were growing their businesses. It is true. Can you really consider yourselves successful when you have huge backing of funds to grow your business and scale it up big?

People are so easily duped and undiscerning. Give them some data with a marketing spin and they clap and bow. It is real easy to become a millionaire with this type of undiscerning audience! But hopefully we all have more ethics than that.

I know of a nonagenarian billionaire, who was the brother of my uncle’s best man in Singapore, who worked so darn hard to get to where he is today and still he is the most humble, always thinking of the welfare of his driver and maids, and traveling down to his hometown in Muar to spend time with the people; and drives a humble car despite having billions to his name. If you saw him in the past driving his Japanese car, he could pass off as any old Chinese man on the street. Yet, he is the most wonderful uncle inviting family friends to his huge mansion that winds up a long windy road. I have heard too many loving heart felt stories about this man that he deserves all his billions.

Then you have the ones who are rich or given funds to play with who also do a good job in growing their businesses to rise but honestly, what is the experience of the real entrepreneur who charges through every war on the business battlefield versus the one who is funded with armour and swords? It is just not comparable. And from my experience, it is the ones who have nothing to lose who are hungrier and fight harder whereas the ones who are already funded, they always have their funds to fall back on, yet they are filled with fear that it may one day go to nought.

So yes, I do give my utmost respect to entrepreneurs who started from the ground up and braved the adversities head strong. None of those pansy rich millionaire businesses. Russel Brunson calls them cheat businesses.

Most importantly though, how are you as the real entrepreneur showing up in the world? Are you always with an agenda? Do you only talk to certain people? How do you treat every waiter and cleaner? That tells us more than anything however successful you are.
