My Baby Shower Cake

We had Tee at a time when we could only afford rice and potatoes and were totally unprepared. So having a baby shower for us, was not only a big celebration of her impending arrival, but to maximise the cost savings on baby purchases.

That certainly was the biggest benefit of all because it saved us eight thousand dollars. It was also an opportunity to catch up with old friends, any excuse for a party, eh? Yes, even when you feel as large as a cow. Let your friends and family do the baby shopping for you. Why suffer dragging heavyweight around town? Besides, a party would certainly help settle those pregnancy hormones that have been driving you crazy for months!

I did a lot of research on baby products before making an extensive list on what I wanted and thought I needed. I’d strongly suggest talking to a lot of experienced mothers before you finalise that magic list. Surfing the internet on baby websites and reading forums and reviews helped tremendously. Do ensure that your list is detailed with name, colour, size, make, etcetera because it will save you the inconvenience of returning a less than ideal baby product. People usually want to give you a gift that you really want anyway. In instances where the gift was too pricey, I’d suggested a share option.

We were filled with so much joy that evening because not only had we fulfilled our best baby items to get list, we’d had a great time celebrating and laughing about all things baby.

Now that it’s all over and Tee is three, I have fond memories of my baby shower and even have a pink box sealed for her to open up when she is older. In it are little teddy bear cards that have been written by every single guest that attended that evening on the one advise that they had for her. Cherishable moments…….

Whenever it is my turn to buy baby gifts now for newer moms, I have to crack my head about what to get because so far, nobody has given me a list! And I never know if they will like what I get so I scour the internet for original ideas before making a precious baby purchase. Because a gift for a baby shower just has to be that very special……
