Last year, Tee attended Mandarin classes after school twice a week for 2 hours each and complained towards the later part of the year for attending. This year, we decided that we’d take it easy and enrolled her for 2 hour Saturday morning Mandarin classes instead. She has not once complained and in fact, attends with a bounce, so we deduced that she was probably dead tired in the afternoons and early mornings worked much better.
Although her Mandarin exposure is now halved, her principal claims she is actually picking up more because she is generally happier than before and when happy, a child grasps things faster.
Her 2 hours every Saturday encompasses half an hour of circle time where they sing songs, play and revise the previous weeks learnings, half an hour of structured music and movement in Mandarin (this is essentially a music class conducted by a trained music teacher in Mandarin although Tee has claimed that sometimes, even the music teacher doesn’t know what an instrument is called in Mandarin, haha), half an hour of snack time where the kids are forced to converse in Mandarin to decide which snack they prefer and a new lesson in vocabulary and grammar. Her final half hour is a private one-to-one lesson with the principal (which we pay extra for) on reading and I don’t know what else they do.
After 4 months of weekly Mandarin, Tee has now been promoted into a big kid class. My poor girl, everywhere she goes, she has to hang with bigger kids, something her paediatrician strongly advices against! *sigh* She seems to be very proud of it though. She told us that her teachers want her to be with the big kid class now because she is so smart. *roll eyeballs*
The teacher told the Hubs that we now have to change her Mandarin class timing slightly so she can join the big kid class because they feel she is ready. I wonder what they do different at the big kid class……
Anyway, we bought a set of Mandarin flash cards for Tee recently for practise (although there isn’t any real time for me to practise with her) but Tee seems to have taken an interest in it herself. She plays with the cards and now almost knows all the fruit names in Mandarin (lemon, pineapple, papaya, watermelon, kiwi, apple, pear, grapes, cherries, strawberries, banana, oranges, mango) and quite a few vegetables. She also knows a string of day to day action words, colours and numbers, but is still having problems constructing proper sentences herself. If only the Hubs and I knew Mandarin…..
Who is Mamapumpkin?
Mamapumpkin spent 7 years in London committing crimes to gain her Bartlett degree in Architecture. She then spent 7 years as a Stay At Home Mom raising her children as documented in this blog of over 15 years thereafter returning to the Corporate World stronger than ever as the Country Director of a British Multinational. She sets out to prove to all, that you can have anything and everything that you want; if you have that fire of desire burning within and the drive to work hard. Even better with much love.
Mamapumpkin has not only grown corporate businesses successfully in the past but has grown not one but TWO network marketing businesses in the notorious MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) industry, achieving success in under 2 years. She believes in the MLM business model but realises the DRASTIC PITFALLS and great stigma attached to it, understanding EXACTLY WHY the majority would shy away (or RUN for their lives) from ANY MLM business. But open your eyes and take time to understand it intellectually, remove your hang-ups, confirm your research, and you may just want to seize an opportunity. She did. And no, she never went about chasing people for sales. She had a sophisticated system work for her through technology and a smartphone.
She now impacts lives authentically with proven strategies amassed through the last decade of her own transformation offering online coaching programmes and always supports the underprivileged. She believes that we can all have a life of our own desires to enable real contribution into the world. But first, one needs to understand what this all means.
A beautiful life without limits.
If you wish to learn some tools to propel your life forward guaranteed, be brave enough to make contact as her life's purpose is to build people. She operates through a discovery call after which she will commit to helping you. Or not.
Most lose out on an opportunity because they are afraid they would be sold to, conned or whatever fear resides in their brain without even trying. And that's on them.
Mamapumpkin is a living testimony that women really can have a lot. Being financially and time free has enabled her to travel the world anytime, anywhere, doing anything, and she spends most of her days with her children, having fun, and supporting others wherever she can. Also having fun.

Both of us don’t know Mandarin, hubs and I dread sending her to Mandarin school, although we know it’s the way to go. I think it’s alright to join the big kids class once a week, better to let her develop her Mandarin to the fullest, really, I don’t see why not.
Am interested in this programme that Tee’s on. Would you mind letting me know where the classes are held? A little “kiasu” as my daughter’s only 6 months old at the moment, though 🙂
where to buy the mandarin flash cards ah?
Clever Tee! If she loves it, why not?
