Swimming at School

My little fish, T1, swims at school 3 times per week out of choice. She has one compulsory lesson of swimming during school hours because swimming is an essential skill the school feels every child must have. But T1 loves swimming so much that she has made me pay for extra swimming classes after school.

She can currently swim the front crawl, the breast stroke and is in process of learning the back stroke. Lately, she’s requested for me to be there to pick her up from swimming so I can watch her a little bit.

It has been quite entertaining.

Last week, the Coach made them race and she came out last every single time (3x) that I was there. Later when I teased her about becoming last in the pool, she said, “Do you know why I was last? The boy kicked my face!!!”

She really cannot lose.

Then she added that she actually came out first for the first 3 races. OK.

Later, the Coach said that T1 is confusing swimming and gymnastics. When she swims her breast stroke, she is so hyper-flexible that she kicks her legs into a split, which is wrong for the breast-stroke. The Coach said that her Gymnastics Teacher said that T1 is one of the best for gymnastics due to her flexibility but pity she’s not interested in gymnastics instead.

Today, the Coach reported that when he yelled at them to swim more laps, T1 complained that she was too tired. “Already swam yesterday, 2 days in a row, very tired….”. Being a compassionate Coach, he allowed them to rest instead for 10 minutes before making them swim again but the moment he asked them to rest, the monkeys started playing furiously in the pool using up even more energy than they needed to swim more laps. Busted. He made them swim again.

I told the Coach not to let the kids bullshit him. Haha.
