Tee will be four years old this year. *faint*
How time flies.
We have started thinking about schools because depending on our decision on where to send her, we may need to get her registered for pre-school in order to secure a place.
I’m all for sending her to Kuen Cheng because my neighbour’s kids go there, it’s near enough where we live and she needs the discipline and hardship. Tee is way too spoilt and needs to realise that the world does not revolve around her, and one way of her learning that is to put her in a no-nonsense environment. Yes, I could unspoil her but that needs to be done gradually. It wasn’t her fault that she was/is spoilt. So to make my life easier, I should dump her in Kuen Cheng. Yes?
I’ve heard that they are short on supplies. My friend’s daughter who’s a pre-schooler there has to wait and take turns to use their colour pencils and scissors because they have so few. There are 40 kids to a class. At mealtimes, a big pot of porridge arrives at your class and you queue up with your bowl ala Oliver Twist to get your food. This will be great for Tee! Plus she gets to learn Mandarin better and we would save so much money!
The Hubs begs to differ. He does not intend for Tee to endure such hardship for 2 reasons. He feels that her Portuguese blood will only rebel and the methodology behind Chinese schools will not gel well with her. At all. We would only be wasting our time and everyone elses because Tee is hard headed enough not to do what the teacher tells her to i.e. she will be spending half her year in detention or whatever form of punishment they implement there. I hear they still use rulers to threaten a hit.
The second reason is because the Hubs went to a Chinese School for two years before being sent to boarding school and he absolutely hated it. He said the toilets were so filthy that they couldn’t be used and everyone was just stupid. So he spent a lot of time staring into corners………
I’m thinking of sending Tee to Kuen Cheng pre-school next year. Does anyone have anything to share? I would be most grateful.
Other options? Local private schools such as Sri KDU, Sri Cempaka, Sri whatever (annual cost ~RM15,000-RM20,000) – another friend who’s just sent her son there starting this year is fast realising that Sri KDU annoys the shit out of her because they make her buy her son new things for school everyday. Sri Cempaka is reputed to be too academic but I survived Methodist College so I can’t imagine what the hell too academic means! At Methodist College, academics were important (90% of my class went to the UK to become successful medical doctors, a handful became engineers from Imperial College, Cambridge, UCL; there was one dentist and one architect) but we had a hell of a lot of fun!!! WE DID!!! *sigh*
International school? Alice Smith is over-rated AND costs ~RM30,000 per year for this level, not to mention another ~RM30,000 you have to pay just to start there! Garden School was very impressive, if we decide the International route, that’s where she’s headed. Fees are still phenomenal but at least I felt that the facilities, teachers and results matched up. However, why is it that we have to sell our asses in order to get a quality education? Isn’t it every child’s God given right? *sigh*
The Hubs does not want her going to the local Government schools either. He has spent 20 years living outside Malaysia and does not have any faith in the system. O_O
**************************************************************************Who is Mamapumpkin?
Mamapumpkin spent 7 years in London committing crimes to gain her Bartlett degree in Architecture. She then spent 7 years as a Stay At Home Mom raising her children as documented in this blog of over 15 years thereafter returning to the Corporate World stronger than ever as the Country Director of a British Multinational. She sets out to prove to all, that you can have anything and everything that you want; if you have that fire of desire burning within and the drive to work hard. Even better with much love.
Mamapumpkin has not only grown corporate businesses successfully in the past but has grown not one but TWO network marketing businesses in the notorious MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) industry, achieving success in under 2 years. She believes in the MLM business model but realises the DRASTIC PITFALLS and great stigma attached to it, understanding EXACTLY WHY the majority would shy away (or RUN for their lives) from ANY MLM business. But open your eyes and take time to understand it intellectually, remove your hang-ups, confirm your research, and you may just want to seize an opportunity. She did. And no, she never went about chasing people for sales. She had a sophisticated system work for her through technology and a smartphone.
She now impacts lives authentically with proven strategies amassed through the last decade of her own transformation offering online coaching programmes and always supports the underprivileged. She believes that we can all have a life of our own desires to enable real contribution into the world. But first, one needs to understand what this all means.
A beautiful life without limits.
If you wish to learn some tools to propel your life forward guaranteed, be brave enough to make contact as her life's purpose is to build people. She operates through a discovery call after which she will commit to helping you. Or not.
Most lose out on an opportunity because they are afraid they would be sold to, conned or whatever fear resides in their brain without even trying. And that's on them.
Mamapumpkin is a living testimony that women really can have a lot. Being financially and time free has enabled her to travel the world anytime, anywhere, doing anything, and she spends most of her days with her children, having fun, and supporting others wherever she can. Also having fun.

haiyo, she is just 4yo…not the time to let her suffer lar. and with 40 in a class, she wont be learning anything except rebuting! and that’s not healthy. 🙂
errr…you got a point and your hubs got a point too.
i don’t know about others, but as far as my eyes can see, kids from international school nowadays only know how to show off big time. fuckin hate their attitude.
chinese school pulak..lots of homework might stress YOU up. imagine yourself flippin through the hanyu pinyin dictionary at midnight just to help her with her homework.
nevermind la. for now, just let her go to kuen cheng. ‘try oni’, like shern said.
didn’t know kuen cheng serve porridge in the classroom..hehe. i was a product of private school..and it’s all over-rated. we’re currently scouting for a bilingual preschool for Belle..and it’s not an easy task.
Maybe not chinese school for kindy lah.. But for Primary. I think kids get a more “REALISTIC” upbringing in a normal school instead of international schools. Take it from me…I have to constantly BASH my kids with some REALITY talks. And I mean constantly.
4 is kinda young to be “grilled” by Chinese School System. My kids were in normal kindy, with chinese classes at SkyLace. And then S1 went to Puay Chai. First month was tough. But in Feb, he was singing Chinese love songs. I think Chinese school is a good way to go.. They do well in Mandarin, and because English is spoken at home and TV etc etc, English would not really suffer.
kuen cheng is a good school. My sis moved up to KL just becoz wanna enrol her son into that school..a bit too *siao*, i think!
