Recently, my aunt told me that she was offered a job to run a designer costume jewellery store at a high end shopping mall in town. She said that her friend designs this jewellery herself and are beautiful. I wanted to know just how beautiful is beautiful when it has to turnover at least 20 thousand dollars to cover rental alone. She assured me that they were really unique and ladies would find such joy wearing her pieces, and what more, they were true fashion statements.
I was quite shocked that a home-based jewellery designer could afford rental at such a high end location. I was doing the math calculating how many pieces of beauty she would have to sell in a day to make up the rental alone. Everything didn’t seem to make sense. The friend was being over-ambitious but then, I should have known better.
This shopping mall, you see, hosts the businesses of all the rich bored housewives and even if the business is a losing business (which most of them are!), they do not get kicked out by the mall management simply because they’re all friends of their bosses. They have enough funds to sustain a non-profit business and it is just something to keep the wives out of the husband’s hair. A hobby, if you like.
So after lots of questioning from me, my aunt finally called her friend about this new designer costume jewelry store to ask the questions I asked and found out that they had the backing of royalty. Aaaahhhhhh……..unlimited funds……………how nice.

And no, she never went about chasing people for sales. She had a sophisticated system work for her through technology and a smartphone.

She believes that we can all have a life of our own desires to enable real contribution into the world. But first, one needs to understand what this all means.
