Le girafe de la France

Because I’d given all of Tee’s baby stuff away much earlier, practically ALL of T2’s stuff are hand-me-downs from friends and family. So one day, when I was feeling itchy, I bought her a very expensive Sophie, the giraffe from France. And because it was ridiculously expensive, I chose not to tell the Hubs about it and made sure Tee didn’t either. Don’t you tell me you tell your husband everything.

For an entire week, the whole family got familiarised with Sophie because she was such a hit. T2 loved her most of all and that was what was important.

Then one day, the Hubs shouted from the study, “YOU PAID FOR SOPHIE’S AIR FARE???”

Tee and I panicked. How did he know? Oh shit. What should we say? My mind raced at 20 million revolutions per second and Tee just had this it’s not my fault look. So much for loyalty. Maybe Sophie was a gift! Yes, a gift! But from who?

“ARE YOU FREAKING CRAZY?!!” boomed that voice again.

Being such a lousy liar, my face showed dead guilt and I half fearfully laughed, “How did you know?”

He flung a piece of paper at me and when I looked, it said Sophie the Giraffe – RM99.90. He had discovered the receipt in the dustbin. What’s it with men digging up dustbins? *note to self – remove evidence in future, including stuff in dustbins*

Who would have thought those idiots would punch in the giraffe’s actual name? Couldn’t they just have punched in baby teether, or rubber toy, or food stirrer, dildo…..I don’t know. Anything but Sophie the Giraffe, since the Hubs knew very well who Sophie the Giraffe was!

So I justified why we paid for Sophie’s First Class air fare on a Concorde speed jet to Malaysia. We have not bought anything for T2, everything was given. Sophie is a very safe, good quality (the highest, actually) and clever giraffe. And most important of all, T2 really, really wanted Sophie.

baby-and-giraffe

Sophie the Giraffe was born in 1961, in the French Alps and is a legendary icon that has been cuddled and chewed by babies the world over for the last 40 years.

T2 loves her because Sophie makes ‘phit-phit‘ noises when you squeeze her tummy or bang her head and her skinny legs are small enough for T2 to grasp easily. Plus Sophie tastes pretty good too! Her right ear tastes of pumpkin, her left sweet potato, her front legs broccoli and her back, butter! Her tiny ears are perfect for nibbling and her legs can be tied into knots like a contortionist, that’s how soft the rubber is. She is also good for hitting people with and used as a scratcher. And I reiterate, T2 LOVES her.

More than a million Sophies are sold every year.

This is marketing at it’s best. And I am the biggest sucker.

And no, she never went about chasing people for sales. She had a sophisticated system work for her through technology and a smartphone.

She believes that we can all have a life of our own desires to enable real contribution into the world. But first, one needs to understand what this all means.

  3. Tell your hubby to calm down…RM99.90 for a giraffe is no big deal la….. 😉
