That is so totally me up there.
That is what I do when T2 wants to sit on Mama whilst Mama works. People always ask how I do it – work 3 jobs. I don’t think about it. I just frigging do it. I clock my 8-10 hours of work daily and if I’m lucky I have a 10-15 minute lunch. In between, I do a dash out to pick T1 up from school. Thankfully school is only 5 minutes away. Now that I have a helper, she takes care of all the cleaning and cooking so I can really work.
However, it is still tough. You can never tell when your child will want your attention more one day than another. When they are sleepy or unwell, they will naturally cling on more to Mama. At some point during the day, I will either deal with T1’s homework (if necessary, but more often than not, she’s quite independent – phew!) or play with them for a bit. Once dinner and kids sleep are out of the way, I am back on the computer working till sometimes up to 4am.
I’m stretched for sure but it’s a choice I am making. Some people deliver newspapers very early in the morning, then run a grocery store, then babysit at night till late. Some people begin very early to sort out wholesale fresh fish, then deliver them to the markets, then run their noodle stall, then give tuition, then go out to run the night shift of the noodle stall. To be honest, many CEOs I know are extremely busy as well! Despite the thousands of staff that work under you, as a CEO (a good one anyway), you will still be plenty busy working round the clock. Unless you are lucky enough to earn on a lot of residual income, life is a constant hamster running up the wheel till it gets lucky one day and the wheel breaks.
Thankfully, it has been reported that children of working mothers fare well, possibly better, than children of non-working mothers. That is not to say that children of non-working Moms fare badly, not at all. Any Mom who is there for her children body, mind and soul, is a great Mom. But being a working Mom does bring additional benefits because Mom is fulfilled outside of babydom hence become better mothers too.
I’ve been at both ends of the spectrum having been a Stay-At-Home-Mom (without any help) for a whole 7 years. It is only in this last year that I have started working full time and it is only this last 2 months that I finally have a helper. If you want to know what it is like both ends, talk to me.
Today, I sent the kids with the Hubs out so I could work all Sunday. I have bits of work to complete plus I usually blog in dozens within a few hours and set it to release automatically throughout the month. Gosh, I have so much to do. Better run. I have to go out for a meeting now.
