At the beginning of this year, Tee had never spelt a single word. I had registered her for big school the following year and when I heard that at big school (this big school anyway) they gave the students 20 new words to spell each week, I was shocked!!! Holy cow!! These kids are between 5-6 years old and they have to ‘study’ spelling every weekend? I must say I was a little concerned as I did not want to spend my time coaching Tee how to bloody spell.

Thankfully, Tee’s school started the kids on spelling exercises some time during the second semester and one day, when I asked her teacher if Tee knew how to spell, her teacher stressed that Tee was in fact, very good at spelling. More recently, Tee seems to have picked up a love for spelling ( or perhaps she just loves being challenged and challenges herself on a continuous basis) for she doesn’t talk normally now but spells her conversations. I wonder if they do this at school or if it is something she has initiated on her own.

It’s good that she attempts to spell everything and we get to correct her if it is incorrect but it gets annoying when you’re listening to someone who does not talk normally. The Hubs and I, we are always tired, stressed and busy. Imagine having to think more unnecessarily when we have to decipher her spelling in order to understand what she wants to say!

“Are you going to T-I-E my H-A-I-R today, M-O-M?”

“Today at S-C-H-O-O-L, Ashley said we are B-E-S-T friends F-O-R-E-V-E-R!!”

“I T-O-L-D my teacher that M-Y parents L-O-V-E to S-L-E-E-P.”

6 months since school started, I am no longer worried about Tee spelling 20 new words each week at big school. The kid will do it with her eyes closed. She is that anal.
