Can you believe that in my last job, I was handling something ten times bigger and more sophisticated than the gadget above? I can’t even believe it. It goes to show that if you’ve been taught something, learnt it and practised it to a T, handling it will be a breeze.
We provided top end serviced offices to multinationals and providing a state of the art PABX system was just one of the many things we had to ensure was in good working condition. This meant that I had to know how to control the switches on these machines that were locked away in the cold, completely dust free IT room. How daunting!
Thankfully, we had a Talkswitch system that caused me minimal problems so I never had to call the manufacturers hotline. When deciding on a new PABX(private automated branch exchange) system, firstly make a list on what you want it to do, how many people you want the phone line to connect to within the office, how many extensions you need, how many lines you want, how much security you need for each caller (this can be staggered with passwords); and then always, always speak to customers who are using exactly the same PABX system. Take your information to a PABX supplier and tell him your requirements. He should be able to make some recommendations according to your budget.
