Yesterday, I called Pantai Hospital to speak to a radiologist. I couldn’t get a radiologist onto the phone. I tried getting another radiologist at the same hospital but couldn’t get through the gate keepers. So I asked if I could make an appointment to see them instead? No. Radiologists don’t meet patients, they only write reports.

OK.

I asked the nurse at the imaging department how I could get a second opinion from one of the Pantai Hospital radiologists and she said, “Oh, second opinion memang tak payah jumpa Doktor! Just come in.”

“Don’t I need an appointment? You mean I can just walk in with my X-Rays?”

“Yes, yes. No need appointment. Just come any time.”

So today I brought my T2 with me to Pantai Hospital. No maid in tow.

I went to the imaging reception and told them that I wanted a second opinion on my X-Rays (which were not from Pantai Hospital). She said OK, took my X-Rays and made me fill out a form. Then she asked me to go hang around and that she will call me when it was ready. I gave her my number but the imaging department in Pantai is deep inside the building, or perhaps because phone services interrupt all these rays (I don’t know??!!!) that phone service is non-existent in the imaging department. Not with Digi anyway.

Out I went with T2 to Starbucks just so we could have some phone service and spent an unnecessary amount of money to wile some time away. 30 minutes later, we went back in and the thing still wasn’t ready. The nurse said that a report would take 45 minutes to an hour. I decided to wait inside the imaging department instead of loitering around the hospital.

1 hour later, I get an sms from the nurse (presumingly, she’d gone off on her lunch break) asking me to look for a Mrs O at the imaging department. I went straight to the counter to ask for Mrs O. Waited again. Finally Mrs O comes out to apologise that it is company policy that their Doctors not give second opinions unless it is requested for by another Doctor. WTF!???

I respect that you have a policy, but can you please ensure that all your staff know your fucking policy instead of telling me to come in and waste my bloody time?!

People just don’t have a clue sometimes.

This is an issue in Malaysia. This happens in many places.

I don’t need sex because the service industry fucks with me every time!
