One of T1’s preschool teachers once told me that it was of utmost importance for a child to learn holding a pencil correctly, simply because if she didn’t, then a lifelong bad habit ensued……
If holding a pencil correctly is mastered, the child progresses to writing cursive easily and fluently, naturally. How does one hold a pencil correctly? It is when you have a good grip of your pencil and can move your pointer up and down with ease. Unfortunately, T1 STILL does not know how to hold her pencil correctly and has her thumb OVER her pointer. It’s been years of correcting but nothing has changed.
*sigh*
As such, writing is a tiring feat for her yet she is unable to change!
T2, however, is a natural. My father-in-law is so proud of her and keeps harping about how amazing that a baby can naturally grip a pencil correctly as many kids tend to do the fist grip before progressing to proper pencil holding. I guess holding a pencil correctly need not be taught in her case.
You go, T2! Just keep scribbling on Che-Che’s work books!
**************************************************************************Who is Mamapumpkin?
Mamapumpkin spent 7 years in London committing crimes to gain her Bartlett degree in Architecture. She then spent 7 years as a Stay At Home Mom raising her children as documented in this blog of over 15 years thereafter returning to the Corporate World stronger than ever as the Country Director of a British Multinational. She sets out to prove to all, that you can have anything and everything that you want; if you have that fire of desire burning within and the drive to work hard. Even better with much love.
Mamapumpkin has not only grown corporate businesses successfully in the past but has grown not one but TWO network marketing businesses in the notorious MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) industry, achieving success in under 2 years. She believes in the MLM business model but realises the DRASTIC PITFALLS and great stigma attached to it, understanding EXACTLY WHY the majority would shy away (or RUN for their lives) from ANY MLM business. But open your eyes and take time to understand it intellectually, remove your hang-ups, confirm your research, and you may just want to seize an opportunity. She did. And no, she never went about chasing people for sales. She had a sophisticated system work for her through technology and a smartphone.
She now impacts lives authentically with proven strategies amassed through the last decade of her own transformation offering online coaching programmes and always supports the underprivileged. She believes that we can all have a life of our own desires to enable real contribution into the world. But first, one needs to understand what this all means.
A beautiful life without limits.
If you wish to learn some tools to propel your life forward guaranteed, be brave enough to make contact as her life's purpose is to build people. She operates through a discovery call after which she will commit to helping you. Or not.
Most lose out on an opportunity because they are afraid they would be sold to, conned or whatever fear resides in their brain without even trying. And that's on them.
Mamapumpkin is a living testimony that women really can have a lot. Being financially and time free has enabled her to travel the world anytime, anywhere, doing anything, and she spends most of her days with her children, having fun, and supporting others wherever she can. Also having fun.

well, it’s the same here! but I’ve quit harping on the older one, coz there’s no point trying to change her. it’s just that way. π
ahhh…i’ve been told the same thing by ash’s kindy teacher when she first started going to school. she held the pencil in a funny way and we had to correct her all the time. i’m glad she managed to hold her pencil correctly now cos if not…she’ll have a hard time writing her Chinese π T2 looks like a lady boss signing her checkbook…hehehheheh
We have the same challenge with Caitlin. Her Kindy teacher has recommended using a pencil grip, which seems to help. Can you buy a pencil grip in Msia? Happy to send one from Oz if you need one, just send me an email. Having the correct grip makes a big difference later when writing cursive or running writing.
I’ve been told that it’s not a big issue, as long as the child has her own ‘system’ of writing.
Late info don’t know you still wants to know.
My girl is now 6. I also thought that that’s not big issue of teaching my girl how to hold the pencil till her teacher told me that b’cos of the way she holding the pencil will make her very slow in writing and she will get tired very fast. Then my friend told me to use pencil grip. Now I also looking for the grip and found the shop at Setia Alam. Go to http://www.mysen.com.my, you can buy online. But I prefer bring my girl to their shop to try on the size.
