One fine morning, we got conned into climbing this very high hill. I know it doesn’t LOOK very high, but it sure FEELS it even to the professional climbers who get knee ache at every climb. This hill is located in Cheras near T1’s school branch and is a well known spot amongst hikers.
It was a first for us and certainly not a last although at that moment, it was definitely the last.
Prior to the hike, I asked the organiser (my friend) about a dozen times if she really thought I could do it and if T1 could really climb it being a kid and all. I asked if there were leeches, I asked how long it would take and if she thought I could really, REALLY do it since I was so unfit. She was ever so reassuring but I wanted to KILL her about 3 minutes after the hike began. I wanted to turn back but they wouldn’t let me.
I was already panting by then!
3 minutes into the climb only took us up to the lowest boulder of rocks below. There was just no way I was going to climb the hill carrying bags of water with a daughter in tow. How was I to help her climb when I could barely manage myself!
You needed to get on all fours, yo!
Alas, the sweetest of boys took our bags off our shoulders and helped T1 all the way up and down. They even helped me even though they had to carry double load, my bags and their own. Bless them. And just for the record, if you ever want to judge a school, seek out the students that graduate from it. These boys were not only polite and incredibly helpful but they did all this without any prompting. THIS was a shining example of how I’d want my girls to grow up into. They offered to help and took the burden of weight and responsibility for my daughter the entire way with their own initiative. Honestly, how many people do you know who would do just that? Really…….to carry extra bottles of water (we’re talking 1 litre bottles, ya?) and bags that do not belong to you and to be responsible for someone elses kid for a whole 7 hours……..I WON’T DO IT!!!
The wonderful thing was that T1 really loved it and keeps asking to go again and again. These city kids, they’re always confined in walls and don’t get much outdoor time that this became such a novelty. I really must make more of an effort to bring them out more to green areas.
The climb up AND down was extremely challenging. I had to stop for so many breaks and take several puffs of Ventolin the entire route. Thoughts of overdosing on Ventolin did cross my mind and I was praying the entire time. I was also worried about T1 as it seriously was not easy. But my little champ, she soldiered on without an ounce of a whinge.
Finally, after what felt like forever, we arrived at the damn waterfall. Damn, because I was cursing like a bitch all the way uphill…….HOW LONG MORE??? HOW LONG MORE???
At the waterfall, T1 wanted to climb in onto the rocks and although I told her not to (since I’d actually fallen into a moving waterfall once as a kid), did she listen? Of course, not. She just HAD to have her sandwich amidst the cold falling water and get her clothes entirely wet and be on slippery mossy rocks.
You know how they say jungles are very haunted? Can you see all the orbs in the above picture? See the below picture – what happened there? T1 was crossing a bridge with the help of one of the team members.
It was a case of now you see it, now you don’t.
With the jungle hike, T1 got to appreciate yellow mushrooms and huge jungle insects. And there WERE lots of leeches although thank goodness, I didn’t get any…….but seriously though, the hike was so tough that I just wanted to collapse and even if there had been a few leeches stuck onto me, I honestly wouldn’t have cared less. I just wanted to survive and get home to my shower and bed……
T1 had a lot of fun though and that is why she keeps asking me EVERY SINGLE WEEK when she can go again.
And I keep putting it off, of course……
I have signed the Hubs to go up with her next so he can appreciate what I do for the kids with the kids.
Who wants to join us next? It’s a real workout and your body WILL ache for 1-2 days after but it is such a challenge. The fresh air is amazing and once in a while, we just need to get out of the concrete jungle of polluted air.
We actually survived smiling on the way down and quickly got to a very late lunch despite starting at 7am.
She finished her rice.

And no, she never went about chasing people for sales. She had a sophisticated system work for her through technology and a smartphone.
She now impacts lives authentically with proven strategies amassed through the last decade of her own transformation offering online coaching programmes and always supports the underprivileged. She believes that we can all have a life of our own desires to enable real contribution into the world. But first, one needs to understand what this all means.
