Facebook and WhatsApp in Malaysia

A couple of weeks ago, I was at a shopping mall where they had that famous tea place from Singapore. Malaysians are such suckers, I tell you. Put a hefty price tag on something and watch them swarm. Just look at Mont Kiara! Hugely overpriced property, overly-densed, bad traffic, concrete jungle…….but people still buy! At RM3 million an apartment!! It’s all about face.

Coming back to this tea place. I was there once. First and last time. For a RM60 cup of tea, my tea better make me orgasm or at least have some gold in it. It didn’t. Not only that. It tasted like water. And this is after it being steeped in the pot for a good 20 minutes. The bill for our table came up to a few hundred and I decided that I would never step foot in there again. Even the scones and sandwiches were rubbish! Yet, people still flock it!

They must just want to be seen in it. That’s my take!

So on that fateful day, the Hubs had to go to work on both weekends so we tagged along and I noticed this:

Everyone and I mean EVERYONE, had their hand phones on the table.

.

Do you see what I’m seeing???

OK, I’m guilty of this too and I actually think that handphones on the dining table are mighty RUDE so I reckon I will stop……unless errr……conversation gets too boring??? OK, I will try to be more polite but I swear mostly, it’s due to work. I don’t have enough hours in a day as it is and I get so many messages and emails to respond to that I am on my phone literally 24/7. The only time I’m not on it is when I’m asleep or in the shower. So sad, right? I’m trying, I’m trying. Need to switch off WORK. TAERCKKKK!!! *points remote control at work*

.

.

But just look at this below???

I counted 6 tables who had people using some technology gadget or other. That’s more than 50% of the people there who were on a dining table and using their phones or iPads instead of talking to the person across. Can you believe it? Is it because people have nothing more to say that they resort to their phones? What have we turned into???

Come on. Fess up. How many of you are guilty???

Phones aside, it was a happy day for me because T2 and I went shopping. T1 (yawn) followed her Daddy to work. If you hear it from her, she’d say shopping is SO BORING. We came home with less than 10 bags but here’s one. Just for the little one to carry and she had to choose the most expensive one.

I’m telling you this girl has high taste. She really does.

And no, she never went about chasing people for sales. She had a sophisticated system work for her through technology and a smartphone.

She believes that we can all have a life of our own desires to enable real contribution into the world. But first, one needs to understand what this all means.

  1. ehheehehhe so cute. i can see T1 will grow up to be like the dad n the diva like you.. serious..

  2. For all we know, they (sitting at the same table) could be having a conversation via whatapps, hehehe. I do this sometimes so that the place will not be noisy with my yakking and of course my conversation with my companion at the table could be shared with many others (also participating in our conversation though they are not physically present) not there via whatapps.

  3. I admit I am guilty of this too. Have to try and stop this. It is rude to others at the table.

  4. i dont like it when my friends keep on checking on the handphone too, when i am talking to them. sigh…..dono what human has become these days… 🙁
