Living with a Broken Foot is no fun. It really isn’t. Furthermore, the hospital doesn’t really tell you what to expect nor teaches you how to do things and just sent me home with some crutches which was a bitch to walk with I can guarantee you due to my weight!!! I didn’t even know how to use it initially and the nurse had to show me!!! LOL
At home, brushing my teeth on one leg with one hand on a crutch and the other with my toothbrush was super tiring because try balancing your body on just one leg for 5 minutes!!!
Sleeping was a nightmare because I had to ensure nothing touched the foot in a cast and even though it was in a cast, every time I hopped in my crutch, the foot screamed. You can imagine what it felt like when the duvet touched it. It was so painful and so sensitive.
Getting onto a toilet bowl with a crutch is also a skill to be learnt. We really need practise in all these things and thankfully I was ale to figure everything out fairly quickly! Walking up and down a step, for example, was also a skill to be learned. You try.
These are all little things we take for granted when we have 2 legs working. What about having a shower and not being able to wet the leg? LOL
THANKFULLY, I had a dear friend bring me a wheelchair and a walker or I swear I would not be surviving this ordeal. Prior to this, a dear friend suggested I rolled around in an office chair with wheels because seriously when you are on crutches, you basically cannot carry ANYTHING. Have you ever thought about that?
I am alone in the house 5 days a week, how would I get water? Food? Pee? Do useful stuff? Zilch. So yes, the wheelchair helps plenty. At least I can move around and put things on my lap.
It is almost a month now that I’ve had this broken foot and off late the swelling has finally gone down after the cast was removed and I was given a boot to wear. I have been applying Helichrysum, Wintergreen, Cypress, Marjoram and Peppermint by layering it onto where the break is every single night. When the cast first came off, my foot was so swollen that I applied my oils 5 times daily for 2 days and saw an immediate reduction in swelling.
Now that I am applying the oils daily, I am really hoping that on my next appointment to the Doctor’s in 2 weeks time, the foot would be almost practically fully healed and I can then book my flights to Europe!
