Paying income tax at LHDN

One fine day when I was maid-less, I lugged my two monkeys to the income tax department at Jalan Duta to pay my company’s taxes. Why didn’t I just get someone to get it paid for me? Because I like to get my hands dirty. I am on a mission (working together) to make change and to really make change, you need to get your hands dirty. How is one to solve a problem when one truly not know what the problem is? Has our Prime Minister sent his kids to a Sekolah Kebangsaan? Does he really know what issues parents, teachers and students face at the Sekolah Kebangsaan? It’s all fine and dandy too to bitch and complain about all the woes in our lives but instead of doing that, why not make a change? Take a leap with a positive step and pray that the rest follow if you don’t have the time nor resources to follow up…………everything starts with a first step.

I had never done it before, pay bills at the income tax department. It’s a huge acreage of Government Blocks beside a mosque and there is nowhere to park. All legal parking is taken assumingly by LHDN staff so we ended up parking in the middle of the road where cars had started forming their own parking line. I stepped out into the scorching sun and unbuckled T2 and kept instructing T1 to wait as I didn’t want her standing loosely on a main road. After putting on my bags that included the diaper bag (no, not Chanel) and documents bag, I lifted T2 onto one arm and then held T1’s hand and braved it tiringly up the hill towards the entrance. Halfway up, I was regretting that I hadn’t opened up the stroller instead but with my goals towards a fitter body, I trudged on.

Thankfully, the place to pay ALL income tax dues happens at one location – BLOCK 8A, which was almost if not the first block at the mosque facing entrance (you never really know where the main entrance is or at least, I don’t!). We were in and out in less than 10 minutes. I got a number, waited a few seconds, paid and got my receipts. EASY!!!

But I wasn’t done yet………and again regretted not having brought the stroller although this time forced T2 to walk at every indoor point. Mama was only carrying her outdoors when it was dangerous with cars. I still had to explore another department at the LHDN and that was the Withholding Tax department. All these income tax people must have been wondering what a strange sight to see this Mom struggling with her two kids! A lady at the Withholding Tax Department was most helpful and brought us to a room so the kids could draw whilst we discussed Withholding Tax issues. Bless her. Just for the record, her name is Ms Lim. Sorry, I just needed to do that.

After our little income tax adventure, we walked back again in the hot, hot sun and really, it is no wonder why I have back problems; I carry so much weight! And guess what? My car was boxed in! ARGH!!! Luckily though, the person who’d boxed my car in was still around carrying some foldable tables out of his van (setting up a lunch stall I think) and so I smiled and waited and told him to take his time. After all, I still had to unload myself and buckle T2 into her car seat…….

I thanked God for making my trip to yet another Government Agency a relatively easy one. And it’s great to get your hands dirty because now I know! I know how good or bad the service and processes are at the LHDN.

Btw, glad that u had a good exp with the LHDN. Till today since 10 yrs ago, I still have difficulty explaining to our overseas partner why we need to deduct the 5-11% WHT..n their usual answer, we will handle our own taxes. Pay us NETT and because of this, we have to mark up our invoices..pft!

  2. so empty the whole office! I wonder why they still need to have so many chairs, air con blasting, big reno and hiring so many staffs over there???
