Getting babies accustomed to water young

It is important getting babies accustomed to water young so they can be familiar and at home with water from the get go. Otherwise you will spend lots of wasted hours coaxing and encouraging a young child into water once external factors of fear sets in. A good age to start would be 4-6 months of age.

T2 started at 8 months only because we were lazy ass parents. T1 started a lot earlier at 4 months.

Having said that, we still hardly take T2 swimming and really should do it a lot more. The poor baby has only ever been in the pool all of five times?

If it is your baby’s first time in a pool, make sure you go at a time when the water’s not too cold. Ease her into the water, no big splashing! Wet her body and tap the water gently. It would be great if you could bring some toys (cups!) to let her have some pouring fun.

Once baby is used to the water, you could take her for a walk. Hold her underarms and walk backwards so baby gets to feel motion going forward. Encourage her to kick behind. Play games with her whilst you move backward, for example, when you are moving backwards, say, “Swim-swim-swim-swim-swim……..STOP!!!” and stop. Repeat.

That will be Mamapumpkin’s First Swiming Class for the month. Go practise.

By the way, finally at 22 months old, T2 SLEEPS THROUGH THE NIGHT!!!!!! For a whole 10 hours. OMG! This is a cause for CELEBRATION!!!!

And no, she never went about chasing people for sales. She had a sophisticated system work for her through technology and a smartphone.

She now impacts lives authentically with proven strategies amassed through the last decade of her own transformation offering online coaching programmes and always supports the underprivileged. She believes that we can all have a life of our own desires to enable real contribution into the world. But first, one needs to understand what this all means.

  1. yippie! finally…see, told you that you will eventually have this day again. mine slept through at 18 months but cannot beat T2’s 10 hours straight though.

still, a nightmare ya….i dont want to have to think of babies again! 😛

  2. Errr… My S2 was introduced to the pool at about 4 months. He loved the water up until about 5 when he realized that people die (that was when my great grandma passed away) and he suddenly refused to go into the water!!! So no guarantees that this taking to water like a duck will last….
