With Tee’s impending assessment exam coming up, I have been urging her to practise some of her Bahasa but she remains completely uninterested. Not because she doesn’t like it, I’m sure, but purely just to defy me, her mother.

All of last week, she missed school because she had a fever. She stayed home with me and drove me ballistic to the point I begged the Hubs to stay home for 2 days, just to entertain his supposedly sick daughter who refused any rest nor naps and was actually full of beans with much, MUCH more stamina than a pregnant lady let alone a fully grown healthy man. Yup, when the Hubs stayed home, he passed out at 2pm after entertaining Tee from 8am. I wonder, what do people think I have been doing for the last 4.5 years from 8am to 8pm???

Although I’m sure she’ll do fine at her assessment, I’m anxious that in case I won’t be able to be there, she might get anxious too and then might have an ‘off’ day where she just wants to cry and do nothing else. This girl is stubborn to the point of refusing to do a piece of work if her mind wills it. *sigh*

So I casually mentioned to her last night that I think that since she hasn’t done any work for the last 3 weeks, and not even been to school, that she’ll probably end up jobless, a bum, and wouldn’t be able to support herself. She knows the drill – school, work, college, University, job equals money to buy things and support her lifestyle when she becomes an adult.

Her answer left me hyperventilating with dread.

“Don’t worry, Mom! I’ll be just like you and I’ll marry Joshua and he will be like Daddy, bringing back all the money and I’ll just work on the computer, like you…..”

“I thought you wanted to be a Doctor?”

“Nah…..too difficult. I’ll just be a Mom. Or I’ll be like Nana.”

“What do you mean, be like Nana? Nana works very hard to get her money, you know!”

“Ya, but she can always be with me anytime and she has off days.”

“Everyone has off days but Nana still works VERY HARD to earn her money!!!”

“OK, I’ll just be a Mom then,” she replied nonchalantly….

JUST???? AAARRGGGHHH!!!!!
