That’s what I’ve been doing these last few days. We cleaned out her room and tried to make it as comfortable as possible despite it being very small. It is essentially a 6 feet x 10 feet room with built-in cupboards and drawers all over the room which includes her built-in bed. There is a fan and a night light and a window with curtains, a foldable dressing table with mirror but no TV nor radio yet unfortunately. I am undecided about whether we should get her a radio or a TV, purely for entertainment purposes, just because I feel that she should have some kind of connection with the outside ‘world’ and also some time to ‘switch off’ when she has finished her daily work. What do you think? Do your helpers have a TV or a radio for their entertainment? What do they do when they are not working, or after a hard day’s work?
I’ve also been drawing up her daily chores, the house rules and her timetable for the week. I have never had a helper so this is really challenging for me and any tips would be appreciated! Thank you, Ladies!

We don’t have a helper but a cleaner who comes in twice a week. As a designer, i have designed/entered many homes and so far i have met only 2 clients who provide their helper with TV, radio and A/C too. Most provide the basic bed and cupboard. Some don’t have a room, often shared with kids.
I do give her a radio but lay the rules out clear coz mine started pinching my CD’s “Beautiful Love Songs”. Lay clear she can listen to her cd’s on the following conditions :
– when she’s finished her work and be specific abt her work
– when you are not home provided her room doors are open, coz if she enjoy cozily in her own room, she fall asleep and can’t hear the phone and door bell ringing.. (happened to me, I went ballastic !!)
– or be specific, like she can listen when she does work in her room, ironing etc..
– Not to touch your cds !! Esp your hubs collection.
I only allow mine to watch TV when I am not at home, in the evenings but not during the day. If I’m home, I’ll ask her to watch with my daughter if I’m busy with something.
I beleive in being very strict with them and slowly give in a little when they perform. Let them earn your respect and trust first.

No TV for maid, unless you want your electric bill flew rocket high and blurry eyes maid working in the morning.
If you want to let her watch TV, buy cheaper one and install it in your kitchen so you can control them.
Maybe OK to buy small radio for her but No CD..no need to spoil her too much, if she is a good maid and eager to work, she will work well.

So far i never pamper my maid with tv, we just give her radio and put in her room, listen to radio channel.
I think after one hard day work, they only think to sleep instead of watching tv. My current maid, without you asking her she also can sit there and watch tv.

Need to be strict with them in the beginning and slowly relax the rules, else they will climb over yr head. I dun think TV is a good idea, they will be watching late at night and can’t wake up int he morning to do their chores. Mine watches TV with us in the living room before she sleeps and after all her chores are done.
a radio is fine, but a tv for her is too extravagant at this stage. My maid’s allowed to watch tv in the weekends, when we are out. At night we are ok with her watching tv with us too but she doesn’t seem to care for it. I think she feels more comfy watching the indon channel on astro when we are not at home.
