Teaching a preschooler how to bake

Tee has cooking classes every Wednesday at school which she has asked for and she absolutely loves it. Now, she even has baking classes every Friday at her Nana’s house together with my aunt, and she absolutely loves it too! My girl, she just loves the kitchen….so domesticated, despite her love for Transformers, Ben 10 and all things boys.

Last week, she baked a chocolate orange cake which turned out pretty darn good. My Mom had measured all the ingredients into tubs and jars and given her all the equipment that was needed and made Tee do every single thing herself.

It was really exciting for Tee but after an hour, she started complaining that her hand was really hurting and tired. So Mom took over the mixing and got the electric mixer out. I was so nervous that Tee would be adventurous enough to stick her finger into the electric whisk out of curiosity and then we’d really have Freddy Krueger cake with flying blood.

Thankfully, all was under control and she got to fill the cake mix into the cake tin without spillage, got it baked, got it iced and licked the raw cake batter bowl clean (something I used to do as a kid). It was a great cake.

Tee licking the bowl clean…..YUM!!!

Later, she wanted us to pretend it was her birthday so we obliged.

The joy she obtained from this exercise was oh, so worth it!!! Just look at how proud she is!!

She was so proud that she had baked a cake almost ALL by herself with a LOT of strength and HARD WORK!

I salute you, Tee. Well done, because your cake was absolutely delicious!
