Remember the electrocuted whale?
12.15pm
Whilst I was in the midst of my lovely massage yesterday, the phone jolted me out of fantasies with Brad Pitt on a bed of roses that lined a rocking boat in the Straits of Malacca. Oh for God’s sake, if there was any way to describe the Malay term ‘potong steam’ this would be it. The call hailed from Kota Bharu, my Father-In-Law urgently asking if I was at the train station yet.
My Mother-In-Law departed by an MAS plane from Kota Bharu at 11.35am and was due to arrive at 12.15pm. By the time she checked her boxes out (yes, she always travels down with boxes and boxes of food! It’s amazing she doesn’t get handcuffed for smuggling) and found her way to the ERL train etc etc etc, I was expecting her to arrive at KL Sentral at about 1.15pm earliest. The plan was to pack some snacks and water, pick Tee up from school and head to the train station. Everything was under control.
But because of the stress that got transferred by my FIL’s urgent voice, I hurried my masseuse to finish up, dashed to Tee’s school and of course, forgot to pack our snacks and water. This is bad news for a diabetic i.e. me.
Tee and I were at KL Sentral at 12.45pm waiting in the car. Fortunately, we could park right outside the entrance amidst religious prayers of not getting chased out of an out of bounds bay. It was Friday after all. Wait, we’re not Muslim. Anyway, we waited and waited and waited. We watched every train go by above head, then started to get really hungry. My MIL said she was bringing us lunch.
Thankfully, there was a birthday party in Tee’s school that day and she had a party pack with a snack which we shared. I told her that if she didn’t share her snack, that I would pass out and die (don’t worry, my daughter believes in coming out of the dead and have no fears of me dying). We were out of water though. I really did not want to park the car and loiter inside KL Sentral with Tee in my heavily pregnant state so we continued to wait. Tee started eventually getting restless. We waited for a whole 2 hours with the car engine running. The Hubs was furious because he claims we could have died. Can anyone elaborate on that?
Ama finally arrived and instead of being the enthusiastic relatives that greeted her with the red carpet, our faces were shrivelled from starvation and the colour of death. My jaws dropped when I realised she had brought four pieces of luggage. FOUR.
It is all well and good when a porter is trolleying four pieces of luggage for you at the train station but what happens when we arrive home? Do I expect a 75 year old lady to carry 35 kilos of luggage? Does she expect me, in my heavily pregnant state, to carry half that weight? We hadn’t even started counting Tee’s school bag, my hand bag, the other stuff that needed to be brought out of the car……
Have you ever tried smiling sweet rainbows when Medusa is flinging her snaked hairs in every direction within your head?
I carried the lighter box (10 kg) whilst she carried the heavier box (12kg) and she also carried the other pieces one by one. From car booth to floor. From floor to lift lobby entrance door. From lift lobby entrance door to lift. From lift to outside lift. From outside lift to apartment door. From apartment door to inside apartment.
Whilst she unpacked the boxes, I hurriedly heated up the lunch that she brought for Tee and myself, thanking God that I really hadn’t passed out. After we ravenously stuffed our tummies, the MIL wanted to check her stocks on my computer. For some reason, it couldn’t load, possibly because of very slow Streamyx. She complained that she never had this problem in Kota Bharu and I told her that there are a lot more people in KL using the internet. It didn’t click but nevermind.
Then she forced Tee to finish some fruit after a loaded carbo lunch, which is all well and good, but when Tee asked to try the pulut bakar that she’d eagerly awaited from Kota Bharu, the MIL said no. Only at 4 o’clock.
We usually (not always) agree to Tee’s requests for dessert after she finishes a healthy meal and I really didn’t see a problem with her eating some pulut bakar if she felt that she still had room for it. So after some ding-donging between Tee, MIL and myself, I got it out for her to eat it. Yay! 1-nil.
Then came the requests. From MIL, not Tee. First it was the steamer, then the gloves, then the bowl that she had given us that was made of metal, then the spring onions, then the peanuts, then she left the gas stove on, then she left the fridge door open, then there was a burning smell, then ……….oh, by that time I had switched off. I was furiously smsing the poor Hubs at work and bless him, he just told me to lock myself in the room and leave the two of them outside.
I tried but it only worked for 2 minutes. How could I leave the poor old lady to her own devices in my home when I could possibly have no home by day end? I forced myself out of bed and taped my mouth from ear to ear again and helped her with her pumpkin pie. Literally. She had to make this pumpkin pie which is supposed to be like yam cake? When it was finally done, I urged Tee to have a nap and so we all took a 2 hour nap to recharge our batteries.
Today is a brand new day and all is happy and well. The Hubs had his fair share of adventures this morning with his beloved mother (hehehe!!) of which I’ll save for another post *wink*
**************************************************************************Who is Mamapumpkin?
Mamapumpkin spent 7 years in London committing crimes to gain her Bartlett degree in Architecture. She then spent 7 years as a Stay At Home Mom raising her children as documented in this blog of over 15 years thereafter returning to the Corporate World stronger than ever as the Country Director of a British Multinational. She sets out to prove to all, that you can have anything and everything that you want; if you have that fire of desire burning within and the drive to work hard. Even better with much love.
Mamapumpkin has not only grown corporate businesses successfully in the past but has grown not one but TWO network marketing businesses in the notorious MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) industry, achieving success in under 2 years. She believes in the MLM business model but realises the DRASTIC PITFALLS and great stigma attached to it, understanding EXACTLY WHY the majority would shy away (or RUN for their lives) from ANY MLM business. But open your eyes and take time to understand it intellectually, remove your hang-ups, confirm your research, and you may just want to seize an opportunity. She did. And no, she never went about chasing people for sales. She had a sophisticated system work for her through technology and a smartphone.
She now impacts lives authentically with proven strategies amassed through the last decade of her own transformation offering online coaching programmes and always supports the underprivileged. She believes that we can all have a life of our own desires to enable real contribution into the world. But first, one needs to understand what this all means.
A beautiful life without limits.
If you wish to learn some tools to propel your life forward guaranteed, be brave enough to make contact as her life's purpose is to build people. She operates through a discovery call after which she will commit to helping you. Or not.
Most lose out on an opportunity because they are afraid they would be sold to, conned or whatever fear resides in their brain without even trying. And that's on them.
Mamapumpkin is a living testimony that women really can have a lot. Being financially and time free has enabled her to travel the world anytime, anywhere, doing anything, and she spends most of her days with her children, having fun, and supporting others wherever she can. Also having fun.
