Life as you know it….

Recently I broke a bone in my foot with an accident that left me feeling some kind of excruciating pain on my foot but it was still not as bad as my slipped disc incident. Nonetheless, this fall has left me home bound in a cast for the next 2 months giving me lots of time to reflect and go crazy. If you knew me, you would know how busy I am by choice.

But alas, God is trying to send me a message……Zennnnnnnn.

With every setback, I have a million blessings so really no water off my back.

Today I want to talk about giving. People have all sorts of agendas in giving, that’s a fact, whether it is the agenda of making someone smile or getting something back in return. It is still an agenda. And for whatever the agenda is, some want to be acknowledged, some don’t. That in itself is telling of a person.

I give a lot. It is in my ingrained DNA to give till I hate myself sometimes for giving too much until I am suffering myself. Duh. Really. And sometimes, I even forget that I have given so much. Like for example, I saw a photo of a memory previously today and suddenly remembered heck, I gave a few thousand to that family for a death yet I wondered if they ever questioned it or even thought about it. I had already forgotten. This was to part of a family who really do not acknowledge my existence much. And then I thought wow, I have given another family a few thousand too to supplement their family income since they had 2 deaths within months and couldn’t afford both funerals and sorts. I know what that feels like. My Mother-In-Law and my dearest Mom died just weeks between each other. It seemed like death never stopped, a whole year of mourning. Except that I never mourned and got into business instead to avoid the dread of despair. So in giving, nobody actually needs to know because the Universe is an extremely powerful force of energy. What you give, you get back a million fold. And what you give with the purity of your heart will ascertain it. True story. Tried and tested a hundred times over.

Also, who gives matters too and this is arguable. A multi-billionaire tycoon who gives RM500 to a child may be a big thing to the child but costs nothing from the tycoon. Someone who earns RM5,000 giving away RM500 is much more painful to the giver. Yet it may not be at all appreciated by the recipient. During my wedding, I remember some big ticket Ang Pow givers and as the recipient, I was so thankful. The givers might have been rich so it might have been nothing for them but to me, even with them being rich, they did not have to give me thousands, yet they did. That alone tells for something. They could have given me the standard RM200-300 like everyone else or a little more yet they gave thousands. And then I think, I know very close family friends who are seriously super rich tycoons dealing in sugar and shipping and what have you, and they gave only RM5,000. It is a big amount and we cannot place it in comparative with what they earn. The reality is that when you earn more, your expenses go up more as well; and I don’t mean just your lifestyle although yes, there are many, many people on the Tatler Magazine who do that and don’t see beyond Birkins and the Four Seasons; but there are also very rich people who invest in human capital to raise the standard and beings of communities, like Young Living. Or some other rich people in Malaysia, mostly the Indians that I know as they come from the least race, the more disparaged unfairly so. And these men don’t make big shouts of their money going to thousands of people on the media.

I am so filled with gratitude that more and more of my tribe are practising this. They don’t know I know, but sometimes I am lucky enough to catch wind of things. I may not tell them, I may not say anything, but I know. Nothing needs to be said because in their purity of actions, they WILL be blessed I know. As it has already happened countless times with me.

To conclude, we really don’t have to think so hard about giving and learn to give with heart. I have a problem because I am putting myself in debt from my giving so that is another extreme that I am working on right now. My husband has put me on a Taliban regime of Non-Expenditure without his approval. If you want to give, just give. BUT.

Always make sure you are giving ONLY what you can afford. Meaning, you’re not going under water like me. And what can you afford? I would say give only a max of 20% of your income and that could mean cutting into your monthly savings so perhaps follow the income tax scale. If you earned RM5,000, then you should only afford to give away a max of RM50 monthly. Seriously, the cost of living is escalating. If you earned RM20,000, maybe give RM2,000 monthly. If you earned RM50,000, you should be able to give RM5,000 monthly. If you want. Just don’t be a stupid fool to give away RM40,000 when you earn RM40,000. Monthly.

The broken foot has brought me pain and downtime to my business but no worries, I will rise again once I am able.
