Should the Hubs be offered a shiny black Jaguar one day from his company as a company car which he would have to maintain by himself, I would make him send it right back. Why? Simply because it is extremely costly to maintain a car of that stature! Plus, we don’t need that big of a car, neither do we need the attention, so no, I am not fishing out a single cent to pay hefty sums for petrol for a Jaguar. And what if it got accidentally scratched? Ouch. Or worse, dented?
If he were to get a Proton, that would be another story. Getting a car allowance for a proton makes much more sense. Buying a car for an employee and similarly, using and maintaining a car that’s not yours as an employee, is not as straightforward as you may think. How much petrol allowance should the employee get? What percentage of monthly installments belong to the employee, if any? How regularly should the car be serviced? Who pays for the spare parts? What happens should the employee leave the company? What is the value of the car after X amount of miles? So many things to consider……
Whatever the case, I’d make sure he consults with an experience consultancy before he accepts whatever Car Allowance the company is planning to offer him just as to make sure it is a good deal.
And no, the Hub’s company would never offer him a car. They reimburse in cash and we prefer it that way.
