The downfalls of Celebrity-dom
I can totally understand why so many celebrities commit suicide and the reason for this is because in a very small way, I have always had a popularity rank. From being that little girl who ruled the classroom to that teenaged lass whom everyone just followed, to over-performing at work and being the heart who touched others, it is bloody tiring keeping up. And the truth of the matter is, I do not want to keep up yet even when you do not, people expect it of you. So you get pulled in all directions because that is you, that is the you they know, that is what you are expected to do. And the moment you stop or decline, the bitching starts. Never ending…..
So can you see why? Can you see how hard it is for celebrities? Because they lose themselves in the web of a fake world and at the end of the day, become disillusioned about who really cares and who doesn’t. They get disappointed by those whom they really thought cared and walk a lonely road ahead. This is what drives them to suicide.
Although I am in a place where I am talked about too, I am nowhere near suicide, God no. But I can see how it gets to them. One has to be very strong and grounded with values in order to separate the real world and the fake world. There is a difference between friends and fans. And although I do not even see my friends once a year sometimes, at least I know that when I do need them, they are there and would drop anything to be beside me as I would them. Fans would not go that mile for you, they are only there for as long as you are popular. Just imagine, if a celebrity lost her parents or husband or kids, that would be the end. But some are stronger than others.
My Mom, bless her heart and sweet soul, taught me that no matter what happens, to always save a piece of myself for me. She taught me this when I was in England studying architecture and I very clearly remember her imparting that piece of advice where she said that no matter what, I will always stand tall regardless of what life throws at me. We cannot please everyone nor do we aim to but stick to what you believe in and do you best work in giving. Even if you are killed doing your best work, you still would have led a clean life doing your very best in helping the work of God.
And another thing my beloved Mom taught me, that was to always stay true to yourself. There is no point tricking yourself into thinking you are great when you really are just another person on the street. No one person is greater than another. Some women go through life brainwashing themselves that their partners love them but hello, if they loved you, you would not be in your misery now!!! Wake up!!! Write the facts down, list the pros and cons, if it isn’t working for you, walk out and leave the man. You can and WILL make a life for yourself and your kids. Don’t be lazy and don’t be scared. Be brave and just do it. It is much harder to walk out on a useless man and struggle to keep everyone afloat than to stay and get free money but live the unhappiness that he bestows upon you. Find your inner strength and just do it.
And this is worst for celebrities because the spotlight is on them. They have no peace and no rest. Every single move they make is judged by the media, by the fans, by the haters. It is tough! But as long as you realise that these are two different worlds that you are living in, all you have to do is press the on off button and you should be good to go.
