Whilst I was in Myanmar, I conducted an art workshop with the kids and brought their art work back to Malaysia to sell them at our event. We framed them up in Ikea frames and sold them for RM50. There was one particular drawing that stood out from the rest. Every drawing was all colourful and happy except for this one. It was drawn by David, a mute boy who was born with Down’s Syndrome. It was certainly a piece that stood out from the rest as you can see.
I thought, Oh dear….how would I ever be able to sell this? Which kind would would buy it for the sake of buying it and not for it’s art value? But we decided to put it up for sale anyway……to see.
And lo and behold, guess what happened?
It was THE FIRST drawing that was sold amongst 37 drawings!!!!!
My childhood friend came running to me to say that David’s drawing was sold!!! The first one!! I asked, to who? And she said, “I dunno! Some lady!”
So I told her to quickly go find out who she was and take a photo and bless her, this is the lady below.
The story goes that she had lost her husband 6 weeks ago and whilst going through his belongings, discovered that her husband had been quietly giving to charities including the Down Syndrome’s organisations. Oh my goodness, I started tearing already….
So then on Facebook, I asked around to check if anyone knew this lady and someone actually did!!!
It turns out that this lady bought this drawing for her granddaughter but when she went home, discovered that the drawing was done by a boy called David, and this lady’s husband was also named David.
Wow.
Divine intervention.
