Several weeks ago in January, I brought T1 for a Disney Princess audition at the very last minute without expecting anything but really just wanting to give her some exposure to the camera since many people have suggested that I take these monsters to a casting house. Well, after 5 years that never happened, so when I heard of this audition, I brought her since the timing was convenient……I already knew she would not fit the role as a Disney Princess as being a princess is the LAST thing that T1 is. She does not like pink, nor ballgowns, nor long, flowy hair, nor tiaras. She is not a primadonna, nor expects to be waited on hand and foot. Princess, she really is not, and a Disney one at that. She is always our princess though. That’s a given.

T2, on the other hand, was BORN to be a Disney Princess………she is EVERYTHING princess!!!

But never mind that. The audition was for older girls only. Too bad. Let’s just go for the sake of the experience.

Suddenly, T1 was not so far off from being a Disney Princess after all – if this is what their definition of a Princess was – confident, bold, brave, loyal, trustworthy, kind, family loving, strong, beautiful. Totally T1…….

The short of it is, she got a part in that video. OMG. The girl prayed SO HARD for a part and she got it!!! She jumped up in GLEE when I confirmed that it was really true. I had to show her the email confirmation three times and she kept asking me if it was really true??!!! I hadn’t realised just HOW much she wanted this.

So off we traipsed for a few costume fittings and then the actual shoot, which had to happen of course, on Uncle Ben’s wedding night!!! Our family were down from Australia, my sister-in-law was down from the US and my in-laws were down from Kota Bharu. I couldn’t have been busier but hey, I’m super woman. I always get it worked out. Somehow. And I did.

I drove my princess to the shoot site and watched and waited whilst they organised her hair and wardrobe. And then the shooting began at about noon, the hottest time. Outdoors! To be fair, the weather was not super hot that day, though T1 still suffered being under the shooting lights and all…….

Apart from being hot and sweaty, she had to shoot with a live cat! No CGI into play here. We’re talking real meow whose temperaments we had absolutely no control of. Meow…..

First they fed the cat some catnip. Then they fed it some tuna fish from the can. Then they fed the cat real cat biscuits. Then the runners got sent out to buy some fish and rice. The aim was to find out what the cat loved to eat and get it to eat whilst shooting. So I learnt something new that day. Catnip. Do you know what catnip is???? It is essentially marijuana for cats, I kid you not. Catnip is like a dry grass for cats and is known to make them sleepy or horny. Like what??? Was the cat going to start humping my daughter???

It was a great shoot. Despite having to wait for Mr Meowy to perform for the camera, everything went along very smoothly and the people we worked with were fantastic! I sat beside the Disney representative (client) who scrutinised the shoot behind the scenes with a producer (the Director and another Producer were outdoors with T1) and I kept thinking if only she would smile more! Yet the Disney lady told me T1 had a very natural smile though she was probably thinking, relax you crazy bitch. She’s doing great!

So that’s my Disney Princess. My T1, whom you will hopefully see on Disney sometime in March. Guess what? I have no Astro – boohoohoo…..so I won’t be able to catch it. Can someone record it for me?

It really isn’t easy smiling continuously for 2 hours. I bet her face muscles ached like hell. Fast forward a few wrinkles. It was a GREAT experience for her and she LOVED it.

So proud of my girl who earned some good money that day. She was real pleased. Said she was going to give a part of it to the Children of Myanmar. She crashed immediately after the shoot and had to be ready for the wedding dinner very soon after.
