If you have boys (and thank goodness, I don’t for my girls alone drive me bonkers!), you would be interested in larp weapons. What are larp weapons? Fake weapons but beautifully made and very real. If you were holding a production that involved Shakespeare and fighting, let’s say, one as professional as the one T1’s school holds annually, you would want to invest in larp weapons rather than make a paper machette one. For the amount of time that goes into making a beautiful sword from paper, you might as well just purchase the larp weapons.
Recently, I watched a very professional production in town that used weapons and it sure looked like they were using larp swords! It was like the real thing. Very well made. It was a historical play on fighting for one’s homeland. Very provocative and dramatic, a nice way to end the year.
I can just see it. Boys and their toys. If you’re wondering what to get your boys something they will really love, now you know. Just make sure you have a big garden so you can shove them outside to fight their weapons. You don’t want them anywhere indoors, God forbid, as they might let loose their larp sword and it flings upon your 200,000 dollar chandelier. No, I would not recommend them indoors at all.
It is also a good prop for make believe play and you know how much children love play. Even for adults! Yes, adults. Or photos shoots. Themed parties. You name it. So many uses for these larp weapons. Some people even make them a collection in line with their interest and passion in medieval history. Museums use them as props too.
I wonder what goes into making these larp weapons and how much effort it takes to make each and every beautiful sword? Just imagine, if I had a son, he would want a customised family emblem on it engraved with his name. Now, wouldn’t that be something?
