Finally, I decided to take some time off work to focus on cleaning up the clutter. We intend to get rid of ALL the toys. Yes, I know we’ve already given away 6 large garbage bags full of toys but there is still more. Slow and steady. So the grand plan is to do away with our lanai grills and substitute them with glazing. This is to make the space more usable because currently with the grills, heavy rain penetrates and this means anything in the lanai gets wet.
I’ve already called for a contractor to come in this Friday to give me a quote on that. Fingers crossed.
Secondly, we plan to move the study out into the living room space. We have a fairly sizeable living room for an apartment and although the Hubs was dead set against this idea, we really didn’t have much option with the 2 girls growing and needing proper desks; I told him we either invest in a bigger property or we move the study out. Our current study only accommodates 2 large Haworth desks. We would like to add 2 Moll desks – no way in hell in the study. It’d have to be double-decker…….
Thus we will have the study outside along with the piano and that whole section becomes the WORK space. I suggested a glass wall to demarcate the space but again, he refused. His idea is to just have some low rise cabinets to separate the living room from the work space and have it kind of open plan. I insisted that a friend of ours has done this glass wall thing and it works but he is the boss, so no glass wall.
*look of horror*
Do you have any idea how messy my our work space is? He goes, “Well, you’re just going to have to be more NEAT and TIDY then!”
*scowl*
He really does think I’m so free at home? He suggested we all get laptops instead of desktops to reduce the desk space footprint but I told him I liked my big screen and moaned that he was supposed to get me an even BIGGER screen that we could mount on the wall! I’m a very busy woman, super multi-tasker and I need several files open at the same time in order to do my work thus need a big ass screen!
He said big screen is fine, you can always hook your laptop to your big screen. Oh.
What about T1’s iMac? Where is that going to go? We would also have to pull our Unifi line to the other side of the apartment, reorganise the whole toy area and then convert our current study into a spare bedroom. Or maybe a playroom? Or both.
So much to do. Everything sounds so bloody daunting but…….what needs to be done, needs to be done.
I was having a browse at Ikea cabinets to see what could possibly act as a temporary demarcation border between my living room and our work space and I came up with these. Not quite happy with either but will have to settle for something for now!
OPTION 1 – gosh, I hate those legs!
OPTION 2
OPTION 3 – My favourite but it’s a bit too low…..
.
OPTION 4 – I suppose I could live with this……somehow I have visions of the kids rolling under and hiding beneath.
OPTION 5 – Shock! Horror! This is actually an ideal height but…..
Oh, I just want a new bigger home!
It would just be easier if we moved upstairs to the penthouse, wouldn’t it? But we still haven’t found one yet as the one directly upstairs had a bad leaking roof and the one beside us, well, she’s not ready to sell yet. Hurry up, lady!
