For the last several years, I have been very supportive of Dove in their self-esteem projects with girls the world over and naturally so because, hello? I have TWO girls that I love and adore from my innermost gut.

The world can be a cruel place. We’re not only talking about danger and bad men, but also women, who have the cruellest of intentions and are just plain mean. They would do things to hurt just by opening their mouth, and so as much as possible, I believe we need to empower our girls with the right tools in being self-assured and confident, so that NOBODY can bring them down. Or even attempt to make them sad, hurt or angry unnecessarily. And just one of the ways to achieve this is to follow Dove’s Self-Esteem Toolkit closely.

For me personally, I asked T1 what she would like to do with me for half a day all to ourselves, dedicated to us, our love, and what we stand for. After a few minutes of crossing ideas and some brainstorming, we agreed that we’d make a scrap book about all the beautiful things in the world and in our lives that we are thankful for. And then T1 added that the scrapbook has to have a story from start to end. Wow, I wonder how we’re going to manage that! But we’d be sure to post it up once it’s completed. It’ll be our gratitude book. If ever any of us are feeling shitty (especially when crazy, insecure women get the better of us!), we’d be sure to consult our gratitude book to wave the blues away……..and be able to laugh it off. Mind you, I’ll put my money that this will be a month long project!

Just take a look around you. How many women do you know have REAL self-esteem? Especially in KL, many of the women I sight in Bangsar are well groomed and carry expensive accessories. What is it about showing you have money that makes you feel accepted? And why do some of you have to have a clique in order for you to feel accepted? Why do some of you get so aggressive and assert yourselves so strongly? How many of you can stay calm and feel love still when a group of women stab you behind your back and not get confrontational? How many women are disfigured because they believe that they deserved it? How many women don’t dare speak up?

We are all only human. But we should strive to take ourselves to a higher level, one that sprouts the seeds of self-esteem and then germinate those seeds amongst our girls, and other women of the world. Even men!

I’m rambling on now, but seriously, how many of you would like to join me this weekend, as the world over celebrates building self-esteem in girls simultaneously? All you have to do, is pledge to spend some quality time with your girl(s) and perform an activity that will directly build on her self-esteem.

Come on, Mama’s!!! This is something worth doing.

As an update, T1 has already started putting a list together of all the things she considers beautiful in her life and around her, the list is 25 items long. Now, she’s thinking about the images that will convey the messages that she wants to share and I guess I’m going to have to do the story part. Who knows? Maybe she can.
