3 weeks ago, I went karaoke-ing with a friend and from that evening, I came home with a book by Freeda Bowers that advocates that if you could just start by giving God forty days of your life to pray for others, it would be a first step in getting closer to God. Life was not particularly bad for me at all and I did and do pray from time to time already but I’m a shit busy Mom. And you know what? Shit busy doesn’t even begin to describe how busy I am. I may waste some time here and there by clicking on facebook or sms-ing messages to friends or just chilling at a bar; but believe me when I say I’m busy. The list of things to do is very long. But I cannot be working all the time. I already sleep 3-5 hours as it is daily which I have just learnt is one of the major reasons making me fatter than I ought to be!!! If you want to learn more, just google sleep and weight loss.

Soon, like perhaps today, I will FORCE……absolutely FORCE myself to get at least 6.5 hours sleep daily and we’ll check back for results.

My friend insisted I read the book and start praying. She wanted me to prayer, even if for 3 days or 10 days. “Just put aside a little time every day to pray,” she said. “Pray for others.” And I must admit that I only ever prayer when I remember or when I have a crisis. And more often than not, I pray for myself and my family, and then my friends and the larger world. But OK, since my friend insisted that I pray for others, and wanted me so much to read the book, I came home with this blue book clutched with curious hands and a speculative mind. However, everything is worth trying at least once in my book. Except for touching snakes, of course. And having that third baby.

Many of the testimonials from the book say that amazing things happened to them at the very fortieth day. My experience however, has been overwhelming. I feel I’ve just been showered with so much goodness that something bad is bound to happen real soon. It is almost as if this is all too good to be true! I haven’t even reached my fortieth day but my luck has been INCREDIBLE!!! Man, I should go out and buy some lottery tickets.

Because it’s happened to me, I urge you to do the same. With faith. Come share with me what happens next. I really want to know! Is this true faith coming together or is it hogwash and the lightning of sheer coincidence?

I’ll tell you a story. I know a lady who’s been going to Church every Sunday and prayers a lot. A whole damn lot. But this lady, she talks bad about people all the time and is full of complaints that being around her is, well, a bloody pain. She is very close to God in that she spends hours with her rosaries and attends Church functions with her buddies but when it comes to the crunch, she just rubs people the wrong way. I think there is mold in her heart…….

And then there is the sinner, who never goes to Church and never prays at all. But within the heart is pure goodness.

The saying what goes around comes around really does come true. Watch your every step and don’t do anything that you don’t want done back to you. I swear it’ll boomerang back to bite you where it hurts most!
