Fire!! Fire!!! Fire in Bangkok!!!

Further to my very lovely birthday dinner in Bangkok at Le Table de Tee, we had a little adventure that got us all cracking in stitches. Yup, I definitely needed my inhalers for those air gasping laughs.

Because we had a six course meal and because it was my birthday, it ended up being a seven course meal really!!! And with drinks and coffee, we were SO FULL. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. I swore I wouldn’t eat for a year!

Having hardly any sleep at all since the night before, we were needless to say very zoned out, exhausted to the core and felt like lazy hippos…….BIG FAT HIPPOS. OK, I shan’t speak for Mom but I’m sure she was full too despite her very slim frame.

Picture us, a couple of ladies all slouched in our chairs like pythons who’d just devoured an elephant, and then a few cows for dessert; we were really goners, what with the wine!

But suddenly, from my near slumbered state, I caught a flame of fire from the corner of my eye. At first, I thought it was the romantic candle lit atmosphere but after my cornea dilated and expanded a few times, I realised that the flames were getting bigger and bigger! Was it my imagination? Was I dreaming? Apparently not.

I caught the attention of the girls, “Hey guys! Look, we have a fire!”

Everyones eyes glanced upon the growing flames. Their bodies did not react. My mind was spinning, we need to do something – we need to do something – we need to do something, and then my mouth reacted, “We need to do something!!”

That got a bit more reaction of out the girls so my Thai friend, she raised her hand to the bartender who was less than ten feet away wiping his wine glasses, “Hello! There’s a fire…..” in a tone that spelled NO URGENCY WHATSOEVER. And the bartender, he obviously didn’t pay us any attention as he looked up for a moment and returned to his wine glasses. He was obviously stoned as well!

My mind continued spinning, what to do – what to do – what to do whilst the flame got bigger and bigger. Soon the whole table would have been on fire! Why wasn’t anyone doing anything??!!! Damn, that bloody wine!!!

Finally, in the form of Wonder Woman, Paik Ling reached out for a glass of water and poured it over the fire.

OH, WHY DIDN’T I THINK OF THAT?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I reached out for my glass too and added water on top of her water and eventually the fire died out.

FFFFFFEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEWWWWWWW. Phew.

My heart rate descended. We were safe. That was stressful. I’m terrified of fires.

At that moment, it was confirmed that Paik Ling be conferred the smartest, quickest and wittiest chick on the block. Actually, she always was, but that moment just tipped her over and she was bestowed the title Toh Puan Bangkok. She was just saying, in our drunk zoned out state, it’s a good thing we hadn’t poured the bottle of wine over the fire instead. Now THAT would have definitely made it to The Star – MALAYSIAN CHICKS GET HAIRS BURNT IN BANGKOK RESTAURANT, WALK OUT IMPERSONATING GOLLYWOGS.

So that was the story of how we almost burned down a restaurant. The candle on the table had caught on to the jar of serviettes……….and as for the restaurant, I hope they have an emergency fire plan that works should there be a real emergency! Because they have a lot of candles in there!!!

  1. hahahahahaha I am still laughing over how stoned we all were!!! Thinking back, luckily we didn’t throw the glass of wine onto the fire. Now THAT would have been another story.
